  • This wonderfully ornate fence was in front of a magnificent house in Savannah, GA.  I looked at it both in color and black and white and I think this version tells so much more.

  • These rocks are at the Giants Causeway in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. I don't know if they are a natural occurrence, but I really like how they look like some type of creature. In the bottom right is a bit of debris, just to complete the scene.  <br />

  • The geological marvel known as the Burren runs through several counties in Ireland.  It seems to be a never ending array of stone that is dotted by a wide variety of very hardy plants.

  • Mount Auburn Cemetery in Watertown, MA dates back to before the Civil War.  While touring this beautiful park, I saw this marker.  It is sad in that it commemorates the deaths of three children.  I was taken by the beauty of the stone, the details that have survived for over 150 years and the message of hope and faith it projects.

  • One of the old cemeteries in Shrewsbury, NJ.  This section is behind one of the old churches.  One nice thing about most cemeteries is that they truly are peaceful!  Some of these headstones go back to colonial days.

  • This is one of my favorite pictures. It was a beautiful sunny fall day in Gloucester, MA. As I turned around, I saw this woman enjoying a book. She is on a stone bench. I really love how she is using her book as a sun shield while she reads.

  • We had been driving over hill and dale and detours in western Ireland when we came upon this cottage.  It is about as traditional as it gets.  The rood is thatch, the building is local stone.

  • Another stone in Shrewsbury, NJ.  At some point, the Hazard family was the driving force in town.  I don't know all the details, but clearly the face on this headstone was someone to be reckoned with!
