  • One of the things that makes older cemeteries interesting is the diversity of monuments. In earlier times, people seem to have spent much more time on the type of monument chosen for a loved one as well as the inscription. Apparently, the covering on the two pillars in the center have specific meaning. I confess I don't remember what it is!

  • One of the old cemeteries in Shrewsbury, NJ. This section is behind one of the old churches. One nice thing about most cemeteries is that they truly are peaceful! Some of these headstones go back to colonial days.

  • Another stone in Shrewsbury, NJ. At some point, the Hazard family was the driving force in town. I don't know all the details, but clearly the face on this headstone was someone to be reckoned with!

  • This little section of the cemetery caught my attention. The central monument lead me to believe that it was for a deceased member of the Marine Corps. When I took a closer look, I got a chuckle that the eagle seemed to be looking at the iron cross to its right!

  • This is an old fashioned stone mounting block, for those times when the horse is a little too tall. I can't say what is so special about this shot, I just like it.

  • 10ty Avenue Burrito in Belmar, NJ is well known along the Jersey shore as well as the Food Network's Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. We stopped by for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Great food and a classic atmosphere.

  • This little guy was much too busy sipping nectar to pay attention to me. I was amazed that he didn't crush the delicate structures in the flower.

  • My daughter and I used to ride in this field! It was a somewhat steamy labor day when I was fortunate to see these two horses quietly grazing. One of the reasons that I've always loved horses is that they bring me peace.
