Monuments in Shrewsbury Cemetery

One of the things that makes older cemeteries interesting is the diversity of monuments. In earlier times, people seem to have spent much more time on the type of monument chosen for a loved one as well as the inscription. Apparently, the covering on the two pillars in the center have specific meaning. I confess I don't remember what it is!
